Fade Gallery Plugin: What it’s Good for, How to Use it, and Who Can Use It
Creating dynamic and attractive websites with Joomla is made much easier when you have a bunch of Plugins to use. The Fade Gallery Plugin is one of these Plugins that can greatly enhance your website, and provides a simple way to display a slideshow of images that fade in and out of one another. However, there is much more to this Plugin than being just a way to display a slideshow gallery, because it can be customized in a variety of different ways.
What it’s Good For
The Fade Gallery Plugin is essentially a way to display a variety of images seamlessly one after another. The fade effect means that viewers are taken gradually to each subsequent image, making it an aesthetically pleasing way to view images. It’s a very light Plugin, which means it will not take a long time to load, and is completely secure and safe to use so hackers cannot exploit it. In addition, it has been designed to work properly in a variety of different internet browsers, including Internet Explorer, Chrome, Mozilla, Opera, and more.
Embedding the Plugin into your Joomla website is a simple procedure and can be successfully completed in a few minutes. It is fully compatible with Joomla 1.5, 1.6, 1.7, and Joomla 2.5. What’s more, it’s incredibly easy to use, and you need no coding experience to set it up. You can also alter a lot of parameters so that the gallery is completely customized to your needs. You can change the amount of time each image is shown for, how long it takes to complete a fade from one image to another, along with specifying the fade step to a matter of milliseconds.
The size of the images being displayed can be altered too. If you just want to display thumbnails, you can set the width and height to your preferred size, or if you want to display full size 1024x768 photos, you can easily set up the Plugin to display images of this size. When you first use the Plugin, the image size is set to 400x200 as default, so remember to change it to fit the exact dimensions of your images as larger images require more speed to download.
How to Use It
Once you installed the Plugin into your Joomla website, getting an attractive looking photo gallery up on your site can be done quickly and easily. First of all, you need to upload the photos to your Joomla website file folder, and make sure that all the images you want to use are in a separate folder. Once you have done that, simply click on the Fade Gallery Plugin options and type in the name of the folder with your images in it. Once you have activated the gallery on your site each of the images in that folder will be displayed in alphabetical order. If you want to create a specific sequence of images, just go into the folder and change the names of each image, or add a letter at the beginning of each file name, A for the first, B for the second, and so on.
You have two options when it comes to how you want to use the Plugin. It is available to download for free, but the free version does have a small watermark in the left hand bottom corner of the viewer. If you decide to purchase the professional version, this watermark is removed, and you will be able to take advantage of additional features, like CSS Styles for instance.
Who Can Use It
All sorts of different businesses and organizations, and individuals can find a use for the Fade Gallery Plugin, no matter what they do. Estate agents could use it to display images of the latest office space available to let, a sports website could use it to show the best photos taken at a recent football match, and a jewellery store could use it to show customers some of the expensive items they have for sale. In the unfortunate event of a break-in, a store could even use the images used in the plug-in to show what items were in the store. Other possible uses for the plug-in could be for a presentation to potential investors for a new internet marketing business idea. The possibilities are practically endless when considering the different ways in which the plugin can be used.

The "file list" is very useful because you may add links and titles to your images. Separate images with semicolon and options (image file name, link and title) with commas, but enclose file name and it's parameters with quotes .
The title better to be enclosed with ' but not any other character
- Example 1: image1.jpg;img2.png;aug2010.jpg
- Example 2: image1.jpg;img2.png,http://google.com;aug2010.jpg
- Example 2: image1.jpg,,"Custom Title";img2.png,http://google.com;aug2010.jpg
Slide show Interval and fade effect can be adjusted with three parameters: interval, fade time and fade step in milliseconds.
Direct link to existing gallery example: {fadegalleryid=1}
Also, you may pass parameters as shown below (no need to create gallery though recommended)
{fadegallery=parameters}
Parameters: folder,width,height,interval,fadetime,fadestep,filelist,align,padding
Example:
{fadegallery=images/galleryexample,400,200,6000,2000,10,,right,10}
and one more: {fadegallery=images/fadegallery3,250,114,6000,2000,10,front2.jpg;front1.jpg,right,10}
